The Roaring Twenties Part 2

I'm going to just give a basic outline of how I went from where I was to where I am now. That's a 50 year or so span so that's a lot of territory from age 23 to 75.

So I have another factory job and I'm 23 and married and my wife is 21. She's a college student in her 3rd year and I'm the provider and am fine with that. We are a team and we are building a future. We hear of Woodstock but pass, there's work and school. We live in a tiny house and dream of a larger one and a couple I know of tell us they are moving from their house. We rent it and it has two bedrooms and a front porch, right down the street from her college. Perfect.

My job is bad. I work alongside this smart alec guy who is constantly trying to annoy other people, to get a rise out of them. He has psychological issues.  I beg my boss for something else. He puts me with the truck drivers, loading and unloading for them, moving windows and doors around on pallets with a forklift. Much better and there's a small raise. Later a driver quits and I get his job. Big trucks with 22 foot flatbeds and A frames for transporting patio doors and windows to jobsites and glass companies. It's a big job and I grow strong. I get a good raise and we trade in the VW for a sports car. An entry level one but still. Lots of fun driving it. A Triumph Spitfire Mark II. About the same price as a VW. I think we traded without more money. And we found a upgrade for our living too. A Vctorian house downtown. The bottom floor and the upstairs are rooms for older ladies who share a kitchen and bathroom upstairs. We get a rent discount for collecting the rent. Too much detail? What about the astral stuff? It's coming and time at that place is limited.

The job was too much for me, I ruptured a disc in my lower back and went on disability. I got addicted to pain pills. My doc told me I'd probably need surgery but maybe not. At any rate the marriage had been crumbling. I wasn't ready. I broke it off. It was hard to do that but I was having bad thoughts about her and didn't like that in myself. Better to let her go, she was still young, 25.

So now we begin the next phase of my journey. I could not envision it would mean yet another bad period of extreme unhappiness. I had a history of depressions and things just pile up as they will. Most people get past those things. I found difficulty being that way.

So I moved alone to a nicer town in the mountains. Made new friends. Had some good times. But I wasn't taking care of myself at all and my back got worse. After 6 months of it, I needed that surgery.

I got the surgery and it fixed the back but now I had to face withdrawl from 6 months of unlimited codeine. That was part of my depression. There were other reasons, things that didn't pan out. No new girlfriend, got robbed of my car, my music, everything of value. Trying to help someone and he robbed me. That was hard to get over.

So I had my year of freedom in the lovely mountains above the SF bay area. And it left me feeling desperate and lost. I turned to my younger brother. He said sure, stay with me, but that didn't really work out. He couldn't understand my state and honestly, he was annoyed by my condition, which only made things worse for me. I needed compassion, but oh well.

I found this lady who was also having mental problems and we moved in together. But her problems only made me feel worse. I couldn't help her and she needed that. I was afraid to go anywhere with her that she might get me in trouble somehow. Say something to someone. That's just how it was. So I had to leave her too.  Any swagger that I might have had was gone. I felt like a stranger in a strange land.

I had been playing the game, pretending to know what I was doing. But I didn't. And I didn't see any help on this earth. I didn't know about help from beyond the earth. But it was coming.
